Environmental Protection Licence No: 10675

The Hume hydro power station holds a licence from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to operate. Under this licence GSP Energy is required to prepare and comply with a Pollution Incidence Response Management Plan (PIRMP), a copy of which is available here.

Peak Renewables is required to undertake monthly monitoring of two onsite drains. The results of this and other compliance aspects are reported annually to the EPA in the Hume Annual Return.

Environmental Monitoring Results

Sample point one is the main power station drain, which collects all drainage water from within the power station complex. It is discharged into the Murray River. Environmental sampling is required monthly.

Sample point two is the switchyard drain, which collects all rainwater from within the switchyard. It flows into a holding tank. This holding tank is required to be sampled prior to it being emptied. If the results are within the licence limits, then it is discharged into the Murray River. If the results are above the licence limits, a tanker truck will empty the tank and take the water away for treatment.
